An Experimental Receiver Architecture For Diffuse Indoor Infrared Environments

چکیده

Wireless networks allow data to be exchanged without the need for fixed connection. Such networks are commonly associated with Radio Frequency (RF) techniques in outdoor environments. More recently, with the advent and widespread use of bluetooth devices and wireless Local Area Network (LAN) products, wireless systems have become more common in the home. It is well understood that the potential data rate offered by the infrared (IR) medium is greater than that offered by current RF technology, however, this high data rate remains untapped in a widespread commercial sense primarily due to the limiting effects of inter symbol interference (ISI) and noise. We propose an alternative to traditional receiver architecture based on the twin concepts of wavelet analysis and artificial intelligence in an attempt to unlock the potentially superior data rates of the IR medium. Keyworks: Diffuse infrared, wavelet analysis, artificial intelligence, inter symbol interference.

Performance of the Wavelet Transform-Neural Network Based Receiver for DPIM in Diffuse Indoor Optical Wireless Links in Presence of Artificial Light Interference

Artificial neural network (ANN) has application in communication engineering in diverse areas such as channel equalization, channel modeling, error control code because of its capability of nonlinear processing, adaptability, and parallel processing. On the other hand, wavelet transform (WT) with both the time and the frequency resolution provides the exact representation of signal in both doma...

A physical model of the wireless infrared communication channel

A simple analytical model of the wireless infrared communication channel in indoor environments is presented. The infrared signal is modeled as the combination of a diffuse component and a line-of-sight (LOS) or direct component. For the diffuse component alone, the properties of the channel are found using Ulbricht’s integrating sphere. When a LOS component is also present, the transfer functi...

Wavelet-AI equalization and detection for indoor diffuse infrared wireless systems

This paper briefly reviews motivators for indoor diffuse infrared wireless communications and discusses the difficulties in realizing high data rate implementations. We consider a sub-set of traditional performance enhancing techniques and compare them with the proposed novel wavelet and artificial intelligence (AI) detection mechanism. Results of computer simulations for both the minimum mean ...

Propagation Measurements of Indoor Infrared Channels

In this paper, we explain the experimental characterization of indoor infrared channels that use intensity modulation with direct detection. The measurement set up consists of an optical transmitter with an infrared LED and an optical receiver with a photodiode. The frequency response is plotted for different receiver locations without changing the transmitter location. From this we compute the...

Wavelet Transform - Artificial Neural Network Receiver with Adaptive Equalization for a Diffuse Indoor Optical Wireless OOK Link

This paper presents an alternative approach for signal detection and equalization using the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and the artificial neural network (ANN) in diffuse indoor optical wireless links (OWL). The wavelet analysis is used for signal pre-processing (feature extraction) and the ANN for signal detection. Traditional receiver architectures based on matched filter (MF) experien...
